Review: Faith in Face Signature Gold Mask

After cleansing, carefully remove the net film from the masks to expose the Tencel fabric surface. Apply the fabric (white) side of the masks to your face with the old layer facing outwards. Adjust fit on the top ad bottom masks to the curves of your face. After 10-20 minutes, remove the mask and discard. Gently pat your face with fingertips to help skin absorb the remaining essence.

Water/Aqua, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Portulaca Olera Extract, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, PolySorbate 80, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract. Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Sodium Polyacrylate, C13-14 Isoparafin, Laureth-7, Propolis Extract, Dimethiconol, Ubiquione, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Horse Fat, Gold, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance/Perfume

First Impression:

It's really damp!

I was quite taken aback by the sheet mask's texture. It's gold on one side which happens to be the side that you face it outwards. So... what's the point of it being gold? I guess I was expecting it to be like a 24k gold mask.

Verdict :

I actually loved it! The mask was so rich and I appreciate a mask that has a thicker, richer consistency as compared to the ones that are very watery. I did mention that the mask was very damp, which if you think about it, means that it's drenched in rich skincare.

I experienced smooth and plump skin right after and I felt pampered as I massaged and patted the remnants into my skin.

10/10 would repurchase despite the price tag. It's $4.95 per piece from Watsons which is kinda expensive for a drugstore product. They are only sold separately unlike the FIF hydrogel masks which are sold 3 pieces in a box. I've ever came across the gold mask being sold in a box but that was in JB.

Dye job

"Your black hair roots are growing out, I cannot take it", as said my my fairy godmomma, Eugenie.

So I was summoned to the salon to retouch my hair roots. It has been a good 7-8 months since my last dye job, which was also by Eugenie. She gave me a warm-toned hair with some red highlights.

Few days ago, mop-headed, I walked into the salon and snapped a picture of the sorry state my hair was in.

Mega outgrown black roots and frizzy ends

Mega outgrown black roots and frizzy ends

I was so excited because I was getting balayage highlights for the first time and I've seen many people rave about it years ago and till today it's still trending. Eugenie came back from the colour bar with a few bowls of hair dyes and started painting away from my roots and wrapping my hair in some foil and working her magic. An hour later the application was done and I was left to my magazines for 20 minutes.

Next up, the dye was washed and I laid at the sink while my hair was being massaged with L'Oréal Professionnel Smartbond.

Review: Faith in Face After Shower Look face mask

Recently, I am on a masking regime that goes at least twice - thrice a week. I was running low on masks already so I decided to try out Face in Faith's masks which I've been seeing some girls on my Instastory use and rave about.

Just to try it out, I bought their After Shower Look hydrogel masks from Watsons. The original price was $14.50 and I got them at $11.60 because they were having a 20% sale. For a drugstore mask, it was pretty pricey because there were only 3 pieces in the box. If I were to get it at full price, it would have been almost $5/piece as compared to My Beauty Diary masks which are priced at $16.90 for 10 pieces ($1.69/piece).

There are other ranges of masks but I picked the After Shower Look because it claims to give you "moist skin just like 'After showering", and my face has been a little dehydrated lately. I'm not too sure if the 'after shower look' means moisturised-looking skin but after showering, my impression of skin after shower is squeaky clean and a little dried out. I usually dash out of the toilet and into my room to perform my skincare routine. But it's quite interesting so it was worth a shot to me. On top of that, all hydrogel masks by FIF are paraben free, mineral oil free and cruelty free. For one, I was excited to try out a hydrogel face mask because I've never tried one before.

First, cleanse your face. Open the pouch and do a patch test by applying a bit of the essence to your wrist.

Carefully peel off the thicker protective film from the upper and lower parts of the mask. Apply the mask, fitting it to the curves of your face. Then, remove the thinner protective film from the outside of the mask.

After 30 minutes, remove the mask and discard. Gently pat the face with fingertips to help the skin absorb the remaining essence.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Dimethicone, Sodium PCA, Cellulose Gum, Polyacrylate-13, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Sodium Polyacrylate, Polyisobutene, Polysorbate 20, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Sodium Hyaluronate, CI 42090

First impression:

The mask was of a thicker quality than I expected which made me feel better about the pricing. Still, it is quite fragile, so careful handling is required. It's not difficult to get the mask off the protective films and onto the face. As I've already read prior reviews, I was aware that it's a 2 piece mask (top part covers forehead, nose and cheeks, bottom part covers chin and jaw). The fit was fine just as Korean/Japanese/Taiwanese masks made for Asian faces.

The immediate feeling after application was a slight cooling sensation and the mask continues to sit comfortably on my face. But I had to lie or lean on my bed's headrest or else it feels like it would slip off.

30 minutes later, the mask got significantly drier than when it was fresh out of the packet.

Did it really give me the 'after shower' skin look? Nope.

Skin was softer after removing the mask but that effect didn't last through the day. Skin wasn't significantly moisturised either. For a mask that costs almost $5 a pop, I'd have to say I expected a lot more.

However, I did like that the mask wasn't dripping wet with serum because some of my sheet masks are like that and it gets onto my phone and clothes, which can get a little messy.

It would be unlikely for me to repurchase but I do have one more face mask to try from FIF that I purchased out of curiosity - their Signature Gold Mask that was sold individually so I picked up one piece at $4.95 (about the same price as the non-premium FIF masks).

Mehdi and Fern sent me a bottle of Argan Oil, Rhassoul Clay Mask and Moroccan Rosewater

Mehdi and Fern sent me a bottle of Argan Oil, Rhassoul Clay Mask and Moroccan Rosewater

I was sent some products by Mehdi and Fern who are owners of ANIA. The philosophy of ANIA was to bring Africa's best beauty secrets to Singapore because Mehdi, having spent his childhood years in Africa and was influenced by his home country in Morocco.

The bottle of Argan Oil was what I got to first. I believe we are no stranger to the benefits and multi-purpose of argan oil. However, with all kinds of oils, it's bound to make whatever I touch in the next 30 minutes oily as well, especially my phone, which is why I tend to stay away from oil products. I was pleasantly surprised to find ANIA's Argan Oil fast absorbing.

Trying it on

I tried it on my cuticles because my manicurist always complaints that my cuticles are extremely dry. I have seen it soften over the time and it peels a lot less. I have never seen them so tamed before. I also tried a few drops of it on my hair but I haven't been able to see much of a difference. Perhaps I should try it with a few more extra drops but I have no faith in my hair because the ends are quite badly damaged and I'm worried that it might not be able to absorb anything good I put on it and that I might wake up with very oily hair the next day. On my face, I added a few drops on my face before applying my BB cushion and the rest of my makeup. It helps my makeup go on smoothly and if that's not the best part, it made my skin look dewy (not oily) all day.

To the Argan Oil, I say a definite yes.

The Moroccan Rosewater is simply divine. I love the scent of it which I would describe it to be floral and powdery. I find myself constantly opening the bottle to catch a whiff of the rosewater scent. I spritz over my made up face for a calming and refreshing effect. It's just impossible to be bothered about anything when I'm doused in it and I wish that my room can smell like that all the time.

I have mixed feelings about this clay mask. While I have yet to see incredible benefits from it, I have to report a slight tingling sensation for the first 3-5 minutes after application. Unlike the clay masks that I have tried on, the ANIA Rhassoul Clay Mask is more watery and coarse which I enjoy because it looks, feels and smells organic. Despite it having a more watery consistency, it dries down just about the same time as other clay masks I've tried on. After 8 minutes, I washed it off without much trouble (clay masks are notoriously difficult to wash off) and I looked into the mirror and saw less aggressive red spots and smaller pores.

I gave the clay mask another shot and the tingling sensation was much lesser and only localised to the area around my nose. What I really enjoyed after removing the mask was the cooling sensation on my skin which seems softened after about 5 minutes of application. My skin feels cleansed without feeling dried out.

I love a brand who stands for a good cause and has a story behind it. Mehdi and Fern source their ingredients from Africa and harnessed the goodness into ANIA. For a brand dedicated to sharing organic products and making African beauty ingredients available in Singapore, I am pretty much in love with their products.

Hair by Queenie Tsai from Hairpage Underground

Hair by Queenie Tsai from Hairpage Underground

Headed to my trusty salon, Hairpage Underground to get my hair styled by Queenie, who is amazing btw. I always try to get my hair styled at the very least before an event, if time permits. Over the years, I've learnt that having great hair really made me feel better about myself. Something about having more confidence knowing that my mane is not all over the place and is carefully sprayed/pinned/tied/styled gives me a major confidence boost and makes me feel good. Mentioned to Queenie that I am into braiding my hair lately and she did an intricate braid for me - love it!

Had the wonderful opportunity of hosting for Mazda at the Singapore Motorshow 2017 which took place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre from 13 - 15 January. I was accompanied by my co-host, Herbert, who is one half of Twins Gone Wrong. We shared with everyone what we liked about the Mazda cars and also some features of the new additions to the Mazda family: the all new MX-5 RF and CX-9 (available in Singapore later in 2017).

The full range of the Mazda cars were featured at the booth and I was entirely captivated by the super sexy MX-5 RF. I loved the retractable hardtop which can be opened or closed in just 13 seconds - great for unpredictable weather in Singapore. I've always wanted to drive a car with the top down cos I really love the wind on my face and in my hair.

Met so many people during the event and made some new friends! Was super excited to meet Tawan in person because I followed ASNTM4 very closely and was extremely happy that Tawan won because she totally deserved it! I thought that all the contestants were super strong that season and had very adorable personalities. I sort of rambled on and on about how much I love her when I saw her in person and she just kept on saying "ahh.... thank you... thank you..." I might have been very embarrassing hahaha!

Yup so that was my days spent hosting the Singapore Motorshow 2017! Didn't manage to document the last day because I was rushing a little bit between another show before closing the last day at the motorshow.

P/S: Day 2's hair was done by myself. I have absolutely no talent in hairstyling, which explains the simple curling and side sweep.

What I've been eyeing at Sephora

I picked out some eye products shopping online on Sephora and they were delivered just in time before I left for Hong Kong for the new year celebration. So I brought them along with me on my trip and tried them out to share it with y'all!

IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara $18.00

I really love the bristles on this mascara. I usually shun big bristles because I have very short eyelashes and bigger bristles tend to clump my eyelashes and get residual mascara onto my eyelids. In this case of the IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, the big brush actually coated my eyelashes evenly in just one brush. I don't have to coat my lashes multiple times to achieve the look I want. The formula of the mascara is so good as well. As I said, a single coat would give me the volume and length I want. The fact that I don't have to comb through my lashes multiple times also prevents my lashes from breaking.

The mascara claims to have collagen in its formula and with regular use will help to lengthen your lashes. I have yet to experience this for myself but in time to come should I experience a growth in my lashes, I'll be sure to update this post again!

Verdict: I would actually love to repurchase this mascara! What I got was the travel sized one which works well for me because an actual sized mascara means I run the risk of dried out products near the end.

Shu Uemura Brow:Ink (Honey glaze) $42.00

Now this is a product that really worked for me. I am a fan of defined (and thick) brows and I've spend lots of time and money on my brows to get them to the shape and colour that I desire. I've been using brow pencils for the longest time and I dabbled with brow powder, but this was my first time trying on a liquid brow product. The initial try was pretty scary, I have to admit. As a swatch on my wrist showed me super pigmented colour, I decided to go in with gentle strokes. A tip is to always begin at the arch of your brows as they are always the darkest. To achieve a nice natural gradient on your brows, it takes some getting use to. But the result is definitely worth it as I got beautiful defined and tamed brows that lasted all day long. What I really like about this product is the fact that it doesn't smudge, I tried and tested it with vigorous wiping. So even if I accidentally rub my face, decide to go for a swim or melt in sunny Singapore, it puts me at ease to know that my brows will constantly stay on fleek.

There are some glitter elements in the product itself but it doesn't seem to show up once it's on my brows, so that doesn't bother me. The applicator is a really flat brush that perplexed me at the beginning but after trying it out, the brush is pretty ingenious, I have to say. I could tilt it to use the tip for precision or the sides to cover larger areas evenly.

Verdict: Not for beginners. Will consider before repurchasing due to price point.

Moonshot Jelly Pot (P09 Hawaiian Sand) $29.00

I have to admit that I got this product on a whim purely due to the fact that I was so fascinated with it. I've been playing and swatching with some of the jelly pots in Sephora and decided to get this shade because of its potential versatility to become: a highlighter, under eye brightener, brow bone eyeshadow or just a eyeshadow base.

The first time I tried this on, I applied with the ZOEVA 233 Cream Shader and it was a mistake because it would not blend out. The product dried out so quickly that it made me eyes look patchy and blotchy. It didn't help that I was recovering from eczema on the inner corners of my eyelids and it totally accentuated it.

My gripe about this product is that the only way to blend it out is to use your fingers and there's absolutely no way to take out a good amount without a brush. I always end up with way too much product. The shimmer in the product is also pretty coarse which makes it unlikely for me to use it as a daily product or frequent enough to repurchase.

Verdict: While it is an interesting product with very high pigmentation, it is safe to say that I will not be doing a repurchase, in fact I am not too sure what I would do with the rest of the product. Do remember to close the jelly pot tightly and every time you dip into it because the product dries out super quickly.

ZOEVA Rose Golden Palette $36.00

Can I say that ZOEVA eyeshadow palettes are seriously affordable? The Rose Golden palette is just one of the 10-colour eyeshadow palettes that ZOEVA makes. I don't usually put on eyeshadow but when I do, I usually go for neutral shades and nude hues. But recently, I'm into all things rose gold, that's why I picked this palette. In this palette, there are 3 matte shades and 7 shimmer shades which are great even for beginners as shimmer shades are more forgiving than matte shades.

Pigmentation of the eyeshadows were amazing. The above swatches were done with my finger to illustrate the colour payoff. They lasted me an entire day of sight-seeing, shopping and late night drinks without touching up when I was in Hong Kong in December. When dipping my brush into the palette, there is very very minimal fallout, which is great or else it will start staining everything around me. There are different shades of rose gold that can be created from this palette but that's about it. If you're looking for a lighter nude look, it might not be achievable with this palette, but I'm just nitpicking here.

Verdict: If you're really into rose gold makeup, this is a palette to go for. The versatility of this palette is not the best but the price point, quality and pigmentation of the colours far make up for what it lacks in versatility. I will be making a trip to Sephora to purchase the other ZOEVA palettes very very soon.

ZOEVA Rose Golden 142 Concealer Buffer $18.50

I've been blending out my concealer with my fingers for years and sometimes it tend to get streaky or blotchy if not blended well, especially when I'm in a rush. So I've decided to purchase a concealer brush. I was actually deciding between the beauty blender, IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Dual Airbrush Concealer Brush and this one. I eventually went with the ZOEVA one because of the price point, and also because I've been hearing my friends and beauty YouTubers rave about ZOEVA brushes.

Ever since the brush arrived, I refuse to go back to applying concealer without a brush anymore. The bristles on this one is very soft and gentle, yet packed densely enough to give me precision and blends out my concealer evenly. The time I use to blend is also shorter given that the brush makes everything easier. The best part is, my fingers are not stained with concealer and it doesn't end up staining everything else on my table.

Verdict: Must have for makeup beginners or makeup lovers on a shoestring budget. Usually for brushes this price I will actively avoid because I've had enough bad experiences with painful scratchy brushes.

Note: The Rose Golden brushes from ZOEVA are slightly more expensive as compared to the regular black and silver ones. But rose gold is love so I am willing to pay a few dollars more for aesthetics.

ZOEVA Rose Golden 231 Luxe Petit Crease $16.50

As mentioned above, I don't really put on much eyeshadow so the only eyeshadow applicators I have are from my existing full-sized palettes (UD Naked 2 & UD Smokey). I was deciding between this or the 228 Luxe Crease brush which has a bigger head. I went for the petit one instead because my eyes are pretty small and I am not an expert with eyeshadows, so I don't want to end up messing up my eye makeup.

It turns out, this brush is all I need.

I've seen makeup artists use a gazillion brush to do my eye makeup but I just channel all my eyeshadow works with the 231 and it helps with blending as well. The brush is very easy to clean and even when I'm transiting from dark colour back to a lighter shade (for the next use), all I have to do is gently clean it with a piece of tissue and voila, good to go again. It picks up eyeshadow nicely without causing much fallout. The bristles are soft and similar to the 142, the application process is very enjoyable as the bristles are also densely packed together.

Verdict: Please do yourself a favour and get one. For $16.50, you're essentially getting a brush that high end brush

ZOEVA Rose Golden 233 Cream Shader $16.50

I have only tried this brush once to apply the jelly pot on my eyelids. I got this brush for the sole purpose of trying out the jelly pot. I am unable to review this brush until I have tried it on with other cream eye products.

I had so much fun doing the product reviews that I got online from Sephora. Shop for these eye products or browse the collection of eye products that Sephora carries here!  Happy shopping and also a happy new year! To greater and better things to 2017!

Hosted M.A.C's Lips Lips Lips event last weekend at 313@Somerset. I was so stoked to host their event cos I AM A HUGE MAKEUP JUNKIE. In fact, when I started experimenting with makeup, M.A.C was my very first brand that I bought!

The event featured over 200 shades of the most iconic makeup product at M.A.C, which is their lipstick. I spazzed a little when I saw the giant lipstick display of lipsticks. I wish I had one of those at home. I have way too many lipsticks for one set of lips.

My makeup on day 1 was done by Yan Ling. She was supposed to do a light makeup for me with bold lips. I requested for the "red eye" look cos I'm quite into that lately and she kept my skin dewy and moisturised the entire day. My lips were red and dusted with some rose gold pigments.

My lipstick needed some touch up after lunch so Zoe helped me put on another look. I really like this one a lot! I usually go for matte lips and I've never tried such a glossy look before.

Can I take a moment to say how much I love my top from Eight Slate. I am a sucker for anything with back details!

For day 2, Zoe did my makeup and I requested for a gothic look, which was very different as compared to day 1's dewy soft look.

I had so much fun at this event. Some ladies who came to the event were asking what lipstick I was wearing because I kept changing them throughout the day. They also asked me for recommendations to which I introduced them to some of the M.A.C lipsticks I own and they seem to like them very much too!

Got a perm

Loving my soft curls that were permed by my fairy godmother stylist, Eugenie from Hairpage Underground. I've been trying to grow my hair out for over a year now and I'm so happy that it's finally long enough to be permed! I've been waiting for ages because my hair was previously flat and I desperately need some volume in my hair.

Hairpage Underground is a new salon that's residing at South Beach and the stylists were all previously from Toni & Guy where they received very rigorous training for years to get to where they are now.

She's been my stylist for quite awhile now and I'm so thankful that she has a very deep understanding about my style and what I am looking for to the point where I don't have to tell her what I want and have complete faith in entrusting my mane to her.

If you wanna have beautiful hair too, look for Eugenie at Hairpage Underground:

Celebrating United Nails Supply

A few weeks ago, I was invited to M Spa at Tanglin Mall to celebrate Pat's (owner of M Spa and United Nails Supply) for successfully bringing in CND Shellac from the US and into Singapore after having tried for a whopping 7 years!

Just a lil background, UNS is a leading nail and beauty distributor in Singapore for more than a decade founded by Pat and she also added Allpresan, a foot care brand to her long list of brands that UNS carries.

And I was generously treated to a nail pampering session to try out the CND Shellac nail polish after hearing and witnessing for myself the benefits, which are:

  • High-performance wear

  • Stunning mirror shine

  • Zero dry time

  • 5-minute removal

  • No nail damage

Indeed the removal process was a lot easier and less-damaging as compared to regular gel nail polishes. There was significantly less scraping after soaking as the polish peeled off easily from the nail.

I went for a bright shade of pink that looks like neon pink in real life. It's my first time going for a bright colour because my usual go-to colours are nude shades, dark reds, if not black and white.
